Frequently Asked Questions

If you do not see your question, feel free to ask us!

Is a design necessary?

We strongly encourage customers to commission a design so that there is a plan in place and adequate space, light and water is accounted for. Common errors in plant placement species/variety selection can result in a space that looks overgrown or too bare, and creates more maintenance and cost. A well planned design ensure that the best plant is in the ideal location to ensure years of health, vitality and beauty! If affording a design feels like a challenge, we can discuss modified, simpler designs to fit within your budget.

Do you allow homeowners to do the installation?

We may be the odd ones out on this, but YES! We actually encourage property owners to get their hands dirty and help install and maintain their new landscape. While it is certainly not required or expected, we know that when owners are involved in their landscape they learn about the plants they have and what's healthy and whats not! Plus, it can help you save on labor costs!

Are you crazy?! Won't you lose money?

Crazy? Yeah, we probably are, but we believe that organic, sustainable landscaping should be available to everyone, regardless of physical ability, budget, or involvement with the landscape.

When should I contact you if I want a design?

Consults are possible any time of year that the ground is thawed and clear of snow. Design work takes time, so if you contact us in July, you may not be able to install the design the same year (we do not recommend planting after mid-August to allow plants time to root in, which increases their chance of surviving through the winter). The best times to request a design are early-mid spring for same year installation, or late summer/early fall for installation during the following season.

How can I hire you if you don't install?

While many landscape professionals offer various labor services, we are unfortunately not able to perform these services. However, you can have us design the space and have another professional follow the design and install it. If your landscape professional is in agreement, we are happy to coordinate with them to oversee the installation if they are not familiar with organic & sustainable methods.

Do I have to be "organic" to hire you?

No way!! We understand that living in an organic, sustainable manner can be expensive and complicated for some families, and that it just isn't for everyone. We know that caring for the land in an organic, sustainable manner is what's healthiest for the earth and what will result in the most beautiful landscapes. Whatever your degree of "organic," we are happy to work with you. We do not require our customers to live 100% green, organic, or sustainable, but we do encourage it!

(Note: regardless of the customer, we will not violate our ethics or the organic standards set by NOFA).
